El 22 de mayo recién pasado, la República de Croacia cumplió 25 años de membresía en las Naciones Unidas, organización internacional dedicada principalmente a preservar la paz y seguridad internacionales, fortaleciendo el derecho internacional, así como promover la cooperación internacional en relación con temas económicos, sociales, culturales y humanitarios, incluida la protección de los derechos humanos y las libertades fundamentales.
Croacia, un país relativamente pequeño y joven, ha crecido de manera sostenida. De ser un destinatario de la ayuda de Naciones Unidas y un elemento en la agenda del Consejo de seguridad, Croacia se ha desarrollado, pasando rápidamente a ser un miembro activo que participa en las actividades de Naciones Unidas y, cada vez más frecuentemente encabeza diversas iniciativas y procesos de reforma.
Croacia ha conseguido resultados destacados y ha tenido el honor de participar en numerosos y prestigiosos órganos de las Naciones Unidas, tales como el Consejo de Seguridad, Consejo Económico y Social y la Comisión de Consolidación de la Paz.
Actualmente es miembro del Consejo de Derechos Humanos. Croacia ha participado también activamente en el paso de la Agenda 2030 para el desarrollo sostenible, cuya aplicación va a ser una de las tareas claves de la ONU y sus Estados miembros.
